The 2010 school building projects announced this week contains just one school in County Mayo and this is only to prepare tender documents according to Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony.
“The Government and the Minister’s record in delivering school building announcements is so poor that the 52 projects nationally announced may be just another ‘wish list’,” said Deputy O’Mahony.
“In fact, last year was the worst year on record for the construction of new school buildings. There are numerous schools in Mayo such as Gaelscoil Uileog De Búrca, Bonniconlon NS, and Midfield NS to name a few that are in desperate need of new buildings. Fianna Fáil have once again let the people of Mayo down and all the announcements by local Government TDs bringing delegations to the Minister have had no effect as theses latest lists confirm.”
