The new secondary league for clubs in Mayo is due to get under way this weekend. The new league, which was introduced after a vote at the county convention, is aimed at keeping club players in action during the national league and championship while the inter-county players are tied up with Mayo teams.
The league is in three sections, senior, intermediate, and junior, and the divisions have been divided into two groups. The league has been dedicated to the memory of Michael Walsh from Crossmolina.
The first round of games gets under way at 4pm on Saturday. Senior; Group 1: Crossmolina v Claremorris, Aghamore v Ballaghaderreen, Breaffy v Ballina, Kiltaine v Shrule. Group 2: Castlebar v Knockmore, Westport v Ballinrobe, Garrymore v Moy Davitts, Charlestown v Ballintubber. Intermediate; Group1: Swinford v Hollymount, Crossmolina B v Achill, Burrishoole v Belmullet, Killala v Mayo Gaels. Group 2: Kiltimagh v Ballyhaunis, Kilmeena v Tourmakeady, Kilmeena v Cill Chomain, Bonniconlon v Davitts.
