Claremorris

Round four of the Open Winter League took place last weekend. The fine weather resulted in a great turn out of members. In the men’s section Martin Murphy, Pat Connaughton, Johnny Monaghan, and Declan Hession scored 84 points to come first. The team of Ger Noone, Martin Higgins, Dara Higgins and Joey McDonnell came second with 80 points. In third place were Kung Fanning, Derek Walsh, Michael Lyons, and Pat Feeney on 79 points.

The Captain’s Drive In will take place at 6pm on St Patrick’s Day. The final of the Open Winter League will take place on St Patrick’s Day. Twenty- five teams will qualify for the grand final of the competition. The presentation will take place at 6.30pm. Members are reminded that the 10am Mass on Saturday next in St Colman’s Church, Claremorris will be celebrated for Chris Fenwick, a former president and Lady Captain of the club.

Westport

Both Winter League formats were postponed on Sunday last following overnight frost. A reminder that Nuala Hopkins’ team only requires a podium finish to guarantee her team, the ladies winter league title for 2010. A non-podium finish, for Nuala, could allow the respective teams of Maureen Keane and Jackie Di Lucia to grab victory from the jaws of defeat.

With last Sunday’s gents’ Winter League postponement, the date for the final currently stands at March 21. In order to stay on schedule it is foreseen that each round of the matchplay must be finished within one week. Following next week’s final round of Stableford, we would ask all qualifying teams to make the appropriate arrangements as soon as possible.
