Intercultural poetry competition

Mayo Immigrants Forum and Poetry Ireland have announced details of an intercultural poetry competition for students of fifth and sixth classes in primary schools and for first year students in secondary schools.

Students are encouraged to write a poem or produce an illustrated poem with artwork celebrating interculturalism and diversity in Mayo and the world. Entries, which must be the students own original work, can be typed or hand-written, and closing date is Friday February 26.

All students shortlisted will be invited to an awards ceremony in April where they will get an opportunity to recite their poem and/or display their illustrated poem, and prizes will awarded on the night.

For entry forms and further details contact Sharon Naughton or Declan Turnbull, Mayo County Development Board, on 094 904 7545.
