Mayo design student, Diana Kilbane, has been selected as one of 20 finalists in the Nokia Young Fashion Designer Award 2010.
Diana is from Achill Island and is a student at the Limerick School of Art and Design. Diana based her design on circuits in phones and all things that connect and used Nokia’s one-stop information portal, Ovi.com and its many services, as the inspiration for her design.
After beating numerous entries from final year students in design and fashion colleges across Ireland, Diana now has to bring her creative idea to life at the Nokia Young Fashion Design Award exhibition, which will take place on Wednesday March 24. This year the format of the event is changing to an exhibition, which will be open daily to the public from Thursday March 25 to Sunday March 28 so fans of design and fashion in Mayo can pop up to Dublin and support the local talent. More information on the exhibition will be announced via the Nokia Young Fashion Designer Award Facebook, Twitter and Bebo pages over the next few weeks.
All finalists will be judged by a panel of industry experts including some leading figures in Irish and international fashion. Judges include autograph designer at Marks and Spencer, Marc O’Neill; Irish designer, Aideen Bodkin; ASOS Buying Director Caren Downie and Creative Director of Avoca, Amanda Pratt. Judges will be looking for original, imaginative and inspired designs that make people sit up and take notice, an expression of individuality and fun.
