Ireland’s only colour master at Lauranne’s Hair Salon, Ballina

Ann McGuire has been hairdressing for the last 25 years. She trained in Aidan Fitzgerald’s hairdressing in Blackrock, then worked as the hairdresser in the Shelbourne hotel for two years on St Stephen’s Green, Dublin. She then came back to Ballina and worked in Olive Howleys before furthering her career in London where she worked in the West End on Bond Street and Oxford Street.

On the offer of a job from David Martin’s hairdressing chain, Ann decided to come home and spent two years managing his salon in Tuam, she felt after seven years of working for others it was time to come back to Ballina and branch out on her own.

One year after getting married, Lawrence, her husband, decided to join Ann in the hairdressing trade. Lawrence spent four months solely cutting at David Marshall School in Dublin and has trained for the last 14 years under Ann's supervision, accompanying her on many cutting and colouring courses.

Over the years Ann has taken many colour courses. She has completed cutting courses with the likes of Vidal Sassoon, Paul Faltricks, and Lee Stafford. She has also completed upstyle courses, including one with the renowned Patrick Camron. Because of her love of colouring, she has spent the last four months travelling back and forth to London doing her CRAFT colour mastery course in London with Matrix.

Because of the recession the course was cancelled in Ireland but Ann decided to go ahead and do it in London, therefore she is the only colour master in Ireland. After 25 years of working with colour Ann was amazed at how much more there was still to learn and how much colour has progressed and is improving every year. Ann feels with the knowledge she can share with her staff, it will make for a more efficient and experienced team in the salon. Ann would like to thank her costumers for their patience and loyalty while she was in London.
