Brazilian man smashed up house following domestic dispute

A married father of two who damaged a rental property after he was locked out of his house was before Ballina District on Tuesday.

On February 6 of this year at 11.45pm, the wife of Arquimedes Da Silva Neto called gardaí to their home at 33 The Commons, Ballina. Damage was observed to have been done to the rear door of the house and the rail banister, the kettle was smashed, the curtain was pulled down, and there were holes in the bathroom and bedroom doors.

The defendant, who represented himself, explained that after he spent a day with his friend drinking he returned home to find that he was locked out by his wife. He said that he pushed in the back door and, upon realising that every door in the house was locked, he lost his temper.

The meat factory worker, with no previous convictions, was convicted and fined €250 by Judge Mary Devins.
