Six jobs will be lost in Castlebar from May after the Bank of Scotland Ireland this week announced that it is to close 44 Irish Halifax retail operations — which means the closure of the Halifax branch located on Main Street, Castlebar.
A total of 750 jobs will be lost nationwide as the bank, which is owned by the Lloyds Banking Group, said the Halifax retail business was too small to succeed in a shrinking Irish market. All affected customers will be contacted shortly on what the next steps are, if any.
The UNITE trade union has strongly criticised the move.
