Free Saturday parking
A Fine Gael councillor is looking for free parking in the towns of Ballinrobe and Claremorris on Saturdays. Cllr Patsy O’Brien tabled a notice of motion at the Claremorris electoral area committee this week making the request but decided to submit the motion as a submission during the Pay and Display review which is taking place in March.
Derelict caravans
Caravans which have been abandoned at one of Mayo’s top scenic areas for over a decade are an eye sore and causing much annoyance to locals, a meeting of the Claremorris electoral area committee heard this week.
Fine Gael councillor Michael Burke raised the issue which relates to the scenic Cahir pier.
Three derelict caravans are at the butt of the problem and Cllr Burke has called on Mayo County Council to deal with the matter immediately.
Dangerous parking
Trailers parking on the side of roads leading out of Ballinrobe town are blocking the sight lines of drivers exiting from nearby estates.
Cllr Michael Burke has asked Mayo County Council to deal with the situation diplomatically and stressed that there was no need for fines to be imposed on the offenders.
He said an accident was waiting to be happen and it was a road safety issue. The worst areas are the Castlebar road, the Kilmaine road, and the area from Dunleavy’s to the mart.
Vermin and rubbish
There is rubbish and vermin “plain to be seen” at a derelict house in the middle of Ballindine. That’s according to local independent councillor Richard Finn who has asked the council to have it cleaned up.
Cllr Finn said the site has been derelict for over three years and local residents are “up in arms” about its present state.
