‘Verbalistics’ spilled from chipper to street

Three men who were involved in a verbal altercation while they were all intoxicated were before Belmullet District Court this week after gardaí arrested them for being threatening and abusive.

Inspector Joe Doherty outlined that on September 13 2009 at 3.30am in Belmullet town, Declan Conway, 12 Springfield, Bangor Erris, and Alan Sweeney, 13 Springfield, Bangor Erris, approached a garda to say that there had been an incident involving them and another male. Enquiries were carried out and the garda spoke with Anthony Padden, Ardmore Hill, Binghamstown, Belmullet. A verbal row ensued with the three men who were all highly intoxicated and the garda directed that they leave the area. All men were aggressive and insulting to the garda.

Michael Bohan representing Padden, explained that words were exchanged by the men in a toilet of a chipper and these “verbalistics” spilled out onto the street.

Judge Mary Devins directed that they each contribute €200 to the Glencastle Special School.
