Woman banged her fists on Garda car

A 31-year-old woman who was threatening and abusive to gardaí, where she banged her fists on a Garda patrol car, was before Castlebar District Court this week.

Garda Shane O’Brien outlined that on November 11 2009, gardaí responded to a disturbance at Hollow Grove at 12.45am where Colette Heraghty, 6 Burleigh Court, Castlebar, was outside a residence trying to get in as she thought she knew the occupants.

When gardaí arrived the defendant, who was outside, banged on the Garda car and was abusive.

The mother of four children, who is on heavy medication to treat depression, was convicted and fined €300 by Judge Mary Devins for the section six public order charge. The judge also said that Heraghty could do something positive instead of “being a drain on society” and remanded her on continuing bail to April 7 for a community service assessment report, where if deemed suitable she would do 100 hours of community service in lieu of three months in prison.
