Last night (Monday ) the Mayo Association in Dublin announced this year’s recipients of the Mayo Person of the Year and Meitheal award winners.
The Mayo Person of the Year has been awarded to former chairman of Ireland West Airport Knock and honorary president of the airport, Joe Kennedy. Mr Kennedy is a native of Doocastle and spent much of his life in Manchester. The prestigious award was announced at a press reception at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin and Mr Kennedy will be honoured at the annual awards dinner dance in Citywest Hotel on February 12.
Commenting on the announcement, Liam Scollan, Chairman of Ireland West Airport Knock said: “I want to congratulate Joe Kennedy on being awarded Mayo Man of the Year. In his term as chairman of the airport he truly made his mark on the region's greatest asset and did so with great enthusiasm, skill and flair. His arrival in 2002 signalled a new era of growth which has been sustained even in the hardest of recessions.”
The Meitheal Award went to the Bonniconlon Agricultural Show Committee who staged their 60th annual show last year.
