Moving car to ‘safer place’ resulted in driving disqualification

A 38-year-old hotel worker who was detected drink driving when moving his car to a ‘safer place’, was disqualified from driving at Ballina District Court this week.

On August 22 last year, Garda Seamus Smith stopped Michael McGloin, Ballycong, Attymass, Ballina, driving at 3.20am on James Connolly Street, where the defendant failed a roadside breath test. A urine sample was provided which showed 121mg of alcohol per 100ml of urine.

Solicitor Michael Bohan said that his client was stopped while in the process of moving his car a short distance to Connolly Street to park it in a safer location for the night.

The defendant, who has a previous conviction, was convicted and fined €600 by Judge Mary Devins and disqualified from driving for two years.
