Handbrake turns in Ballina carpark lead to driving conviction

A 19-year old apprentice plumber who was detected by gardaí driving dangerously in Diamond’s carpark, Ballina, was before Ballina District Court this week.

Garda Pauric Kelly told the court that a number of complaints were made to Ballina Garda Station on Tuesday July 28 about a number of cars performing manoeuvres in the carpark. An unmarked garda car arrived at the location and a Toyota Starlet driven by Edward Smith, Quignashee, Ballina was observed performing handbrake turns on Teeling Street. Smith was stopped by gardaí at 12.40am.

Judge Mary Devins dismissed the dangerous driving charge and convicted and fined the defendant €400 for careless driving.
