Ballina Fine Gael councillor Michelle Mulherin is to become a full member of the Committee of Regions. This is a committee of the European Union which has to be consulted by the European Commission and the EU Council in regard to matters of local and regional authorities.
The appointment was made by Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny. “I am happy to appoint Cllr Mulherin as a full member of the Committee of the Regions,” Dep Kenny said. “She has served as an alternate member for the past four years. She brings a depth of experience to this area which is important in the context of regional development. I expect Michelle to articulate the regional potential of this region based on what can be achieved through infrastructure as a basis for jobs and employment.
“This has particular relevance in the area of energy, transport, and education. I wish her well in her new role and have no doubt she will play a full part in the committee’s work. Michelle’s nomination has been accepted by the Government as a member of the Fine Gael appointees on the committee.”
