Following Westport Town Councillors’ condemnation of the persistent odour at the Quay, which particularly lingers in the location of the Quay Bar, investigations were carried out by the town council in association with the environmental section of Mayo County Council.
The main source of the smell was located from a factory in the Quay area which is subject to a waste disposal licence granted by Mayo County Council’s environmental section. Actions have since been taken to deal with the odour. Inspections were also carried out in private properties which reported odour problems and attention was drawn to deficiencies in their own plumbing systems, the monthly meeting of the Town Council were told on Thursday evening.
