Mayo Writers’ Block writers’ festival kicks off tonight (Friday September 26 ) in the Claremorris Library at 8pm with guest writer Susan Millar DuMars reading from her work, music by local talented musicians and an open mic at 9pm.
This event, which is open to all and admission is free, is sponsored by the McWilliam Park Hotel, who will offer a prize of a mid-week break in the hotel to be awarded to whoever the audience on the night decide gave them the most enjoyment.
There will be two writing workshops taking place on Saturday. Helen Falconer will facilitate one on prose/novel writing from 10am to 4pm in the boardroom in Clar IRD. Susan Millar DuMars will also facilitate a poetry workshop from 10am to 4pm in the Dalton Inn.
Both Helen and Susan are very experienced and popular workshop teachers. These workshops will each have 12 places, which will be available on a first come first served basis. To register for either, send a cheque for €25 with your name, telephone number and which workshop you wish to attend to MWB, c/o Clar IRD, Claremorris. You will receive confirmation if you have secured a place or a refund if the workshops are full.
On Sunday the festival closes with a book breakfast. Members of MWB are asked to pick their favourite passage from a book not written by themselves to share with others. This event is open to members of the MWB only, who must register for the event with the chair.
