Letters lead to litter lout conviction

A woman who dumped rubbish on a bonfire for bonfire night was convicted at Ballina District Court for illegal dumping.

Josephine Armstrong, litter warden, said that she investigated a complaint of illegal dumping on June 17 2009 in the townland of Quignashee, Ballina.

Two letters addressed to Ann Collins, 124 Greenhills Estate, Ballina, were found among a pile of rubbish thrown on a bonfire. Other items discovered in the vicinity included aerosol cans, a mattress, and car batteries.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Collins €500 and ordered that €500 be contributed to costs.
