On Thursday January 21 anyone interested in taking up cycling from the south Mayo/north Galway area can come to the cycling centre on the Kilmaine Road, Ballinrobe, between 6.30pm and 8.30pm and sign up as Western Lakes cycling club members. A free polo shirt will be given to all members who enrol on the night.
Western Lakes organises a whole host of events from club league races, leisure cycles, open races, Connacht and Mayo league races, and all the training activities and administration that goes with running a club. You also get 24 hour third party cover with Cycling Ireland all year round and are also covered to participate in all Cycling Ireland events nation-wide.
Cycling centre activities
Circuit classes are back on Mondays from 7pm to 8pm, a great workout to start off the week while exercising all the main muscle groups. Spin classes are back on Thursday evenings. There are two classes to choose from, one at 7pm and then 8pm. Book early as demand is always high.
Club weekend to Clifden
The weekend of January 30 and 31 a group of club members will cycle to Clifden as part of a social/training/leisure weekend, there will be two options in distance, the long way or the direct way (short ) which is 47 miles, we will be staying at the Station House Hotel on the Saturday night, where members can avail of the leisure facilities and soothe their muscles before dinner.
The following morning the groups will cycle back via a different route.
There will be two vehicles travelling back to bring luggage and act as support. The cost is €60 for dinner, B and B per person sharing. To book your place contact Mary on 087 6248407.
Training spins
The club will be organising Sunday morning training leisure spins from 9.45am at the Cornmarket Ballinrobe once the weather improves. Contact Fergal on 087 1211047
