The Minister for Labour Affairs Dara Calleary TD is encouraging primary level students in Mayo to enter the Junior Inventor Competition run by the Irish Patent’s Office.
The aim of the Junior Inventor Competition is to encourage students to be innovative and to sow the seeds of interest in science and engineering at an early age. There are two categories; one from first class to third class and another from fourth class to sixth class. Prizes will be awarded in both categories and the people placed first in each of the categories will also win a prize for their school.
Students can enter an idea or invention for a new product, an improvement on an existing product, or any idea that solves a problem or makes life easier for people.
All Mayo primary schools will receive information about the competition and details are also available on the Patent’s Office website at www.patentsoffice.ie The closing date for entries is Friday March 26 at 5.30pm and the address to send entries to is Junior Inventor 2010, Patents Office, Government Buildings, Hebron Road, Kilkenny.
“I would like to encourage all Mayo primary level students to get their thinking caps on and to consider entering this innovative competition,” concluded Minister Calleary.
