€160,000 sanctioned in north Mayo for rural recreational projects

Fine Gael leader Dep Enda Kenny has welcomed funding sanctioned by the Department of Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht Affairs to Mayo County Council for providing and upgrading rural recreational projects in north Mayo. This funding will be used to extend the North Mayo Coastal Trail and develop a linear cycle route as part of the national cycle network as well as improved signage, parking, and toilet facilities in certain areas. It will form part of the €750,000 investment by Fóram Pobail Iarthuaisceart Mhaigh Eo’s plan for the area.

“This type of funding is essential in order to ensure that rural recreational facilities in our county continue to improve,” Deputy Kenny said. ”It will not just benefit local residents as many of these improvements will also make the attraction of tourists to these areas much more likely. This funding has been provided as part of the Kilcommon Development Fund and I wish to acknowledge the input by those involved.”
