Housing demands have surged in the country in an “unprecedented social housing crisis” as reported in this week's Irish Independent; with Mayo being one of the worst-hit areas.
An investigation carried out by the national paper showed that there is a 97 per cent increase in demand for social housing in Mayo. Nationally, there are more that 100,000 applicants on local authority housing lists.
