Male surgical ward at Mayo General Hospital currently closed

The male surgical (B ) ward at Mayo General Hospital is currently closed to admissions, due to cases of vomiting and diarrhoea. Patients are being accommodated in both the medical assessment unit and the emergency department at the hospital at present.

All relevant infection, prevention, and control precautions are being taken. Visiting to the ward is restricted to family members on the basis of one visitor per patient and visiting periods should be kept to an absolute minimum.

The swine flu vaccination clinic will continue to operate in the clinical decision unit. The hospital is advising members of the public that if they or any of their family members have recent experience of diarrhoea or vomiting then they should refrain from visiting the hospital.

Patients are also asked to attend their GP, in the first instance, before attending the emergency department at Mayo General Hospital, if they need medical attention.
