FÁS certificates presented to Mayo craftspeople

The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Mr Éamon Ó Cuív TD recently presented advanced craft certificates to some 200 craftspersons from Mayo, Galway, and Roscommon, to mark the successful completion of their apprenticeship training with FÁS.

Addressing the graduating class, Minister Ó Cuív said: “Recently the Government announced a range of measures aimed at maintaining people in employment, reskilling, further education, and training supports to maintain our ‘knowledge economy’ and the creation of sustainable and long-term employment opportunities. These initiatives are aimed at improving the skills and qualification levels across our labour force, to provide adequate support to help them overcome the present challenge.”

FÁS has a range of services to support employers and to help individuals enter the labour market, such as the work placement programme launched earlier this year by the Tánaiste. This is in addition to an extensive range of new innovative programmes to deal with current challenges including the Employer Based Redundant Apprentice Rotation Scheme to assist redundant apprentices to complete their training.

This year a total of 4,734 apprentices will be presented throughout the country with advanced craft certificates, including 395 in this region.
