Claremorris Colts RFC

Mini rugby with Claremorris Colts RFC has been under way for three months and, despite a couple of upsets with weather conditions, everyone - both the children and coaches - seems to be enjoying great progress.

With Christmas almost upon us, there are a couple of dates and events that parents should note. On Saturday next, December 5, Dunmore RFC will travel to Claremorris to take on the Colts. The games will be fun and all age groups will be participating. Matches will get under way at 11am and are expected to be finished by 12.30pm. After the games, the members of Claremorris Colts RFC, as well as the visiting club, are invited to go to Supermac’s where refreshments will be provided. Parents are asked to transport their children to Supermac’s and are more than welcome to join them for the refreshments.

The following Saturday, December 12, training will continue as normal. Later in the day, children and parents are invited to the Christmas disco party. The party will take place from 3pm until 5.30pm in the Millennium Nightclub in the Western Hotel. Santa will be there, there will be a DJ, and refreshments will again be provided. Parents are invited to stay around. All children must be brought into the venue by a parent/guardian and checked in with one of the coaches. After the party, children must be collected from within the venue. No children will be permitted to leave alone.

At the party, club gear will be on sale. For adults, hoodies, jackets, fleece tops, T-shirts, and hats will be available for purchase. These can also be ordered in children's sizes. Also on sale on the day will be scrum hats (€30 ), shoulder pads (€30 ), gloves (€10 ), club beanie hats (€10 ), and club togs and socks (€20 ).

All support in this regard would be much appreciated. Training will continue until Saturday December 19.

On Saturday January 2, the under 11s (all 10-year-olds ) will play the exhibition match at half-time of the Connacht v Leinster game at the Sportsground in Galway. This is one of the big games of the year for Connacht, playing the 2009 Heineken European Club Champions. Consequently, it is a great honour for the club, particularly considering the infancy of Claremorris Colts RFC.

Parents wishing to purchase tickets to travel to the game are asked to order tickets through the club before next Saturday, December 5. Full details in relation to the itinerary and travel arrangements will be available for parents on December 12.

By now, all children should be registered and the club should have received a copy of each child's long birth certificate. If you have yet to complete the registration process, please do so this week. Children who are not registered with the club will be unable to continue to play with Claremorris Colts, as without registration, children are not covered by insurance.
