The Bangor Erris region was left reeling in shock after local businessman Frank Brogan passed away suddenly on Monday evening at his residence.
Mr Brogan was an astute businessman in the area and employed a vast number of local people in his thriving businesses, ranging from the hardware sector to a Eurospar, and recently Frank Brogan Ltd opened the Gateway Leisureplex centre in Belmullet.
Belmullet area Fine Gael councillor Gerry Coyle described Frank as a “unique character” who will be sadly missed in the region, as not alone was he a hugely respected employer in the area but he was also a “giver to the community” through ploughing as much money as he could through sponsoring, fundraising, and attending and assisting a wide range of local community events.
Cllr Coyle added that Mr Brogan, who has four daughters and one son, was “always ready to assist” new businesses starting up in the area through offering advice and he said that “now more than ever” a person as proficient as Frank “will be a huge loss to the region.”
Funeral Mass will take place in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Bangor Erris, today (Friday ) at 12 noon, with burial afterwards in Bangor Erris cemetery. All business premises in Bangor Erris will be close on Friday until 2pm as a mark of respect.
