Fine Gael town councillor Ger Deere has warned local residents to be vigilant as the annual phone books are being delivered. The books are also being delivered to premises that may be derelict and houses that are unoccupied.
“These pose a risk in terms of litter problems as the rain and wind may end up causing them to deteriorate and blow all over the place. They also act as a signal to burglars that houses may be unoccupied,” Cllr Deere said.
“I am asking that local residents keep an eye out to see if their neighbour’s phone books have been taken in and if not, that they may take them in on their behalf. Some houses where the phone book is left outside too long may fall victim to burglars. Furthermore, considering the strong rain and wind experienced recently, they may become wet and end up being blown around the local area causing serious litter problems.”
