Mayo-based medical device company Baxter Healthcare walked away with the silver award in both the Manufacturing and Operational Excellence categories and Skills and Knowledge category at the third annual Irish Medical Devices Association (IMDA ) Industry Excellence awards at Dromoland Castle. IMDA, a business sector within IBEC, hosted the event in association with Enterprise Ireland and IDA.
Speaking at the awards, IMDA Director Sharon Higgins said: “Baxter Healthcare’s achievements are fantastic examples of what Irish talent and leadership can deliver.”
Accepting the award, Pat Gallagher CEO, Baxter Healthcare, Castlebar, said: “This is a great example of an administration process re-engineering project that greatly enhanced quality and systems compliance, while also generating a significant return on investment through mistake-proofing the production processes and reducing administration overhead.”
Baxter Healthcare was also recognised in the Skills and Knowledge category where the company has provided a stepped technical progression route for the development of skills in-house. This was a fundamental part of ensuring a successful deployment of Baxter’s high-tech strategy through the stages of equipment design, build, installation, validation and operation. The programme involved introducing employees of various levels and background to a whole new set of skills and knowledge, both work-based at the equipment and formalised learning in a classroom.
