Castlebar’s Lough Lannagh holiday village could become a mini-Trabolgan, according to Councillor Frank Durcan. Cllr Durcan put forward a motion calling on the council to upgrade the holiday village. Town manager Seamus Granahan said he would explore the possibilities of doing so, and congratulated the people who are currently running the facility on doing a good job, but warned that finances would be a stumbling block at this current time.
Fine Gael councillor Eugene McCormack put forward the possibility of looking at a partnership deal with a private company to raise funding for some further development. “I believe if this is done right, it could be the jewel of the crown.”
Mayor Michael Kilcoyne told the meeting he was against the idea of a private partnership. “I fundamentally disagree with Cllr McCormack’s proposal that a private partner should be sought,” he said. “We should do this ourselves and Castlebar Town Council and Mayo County Council should have done more in relation to developing it before this.”
