The Fine Gael spokesperson on community, rural, and Gaeltacht affairs, Deputy Michael Ring, has again questioned the Office of Public Works regarding the ongoing issue of flooding in south Mayo.
Deputy Ring has met with National Parks and Wildlife Service officials to discuss the Roundfort and Hollymount Flood Mitigation Proposal. The NPWS officials indicated that they are waiting on an ecologists report from the OPW.
Dep Ring said that: “On September 16 Minister Mansergh indicated that the report would be completed by the end of September. Now that September is long gone, Minister Mansergh says that ‘the ecologist’s report regarding potential measures to address the flood problem at Roundfort-Hollymount will be finalised by mid-November’.
“The flooding has been ongoing in the Roundfort-Hollymount area for a very long time. We have been waiting for this report for many months. I am calling on the OPW to complete the report as quickly as possible so that a resolution can be found to this flooding problem.”
