Minister to open Achill playground

CFÁA has completed Páirc Na Mara, Acaill, a new state of the art Children’s playground located in the heart of Keel. This modern facility, which has been equipped using the latest in the market innovations in play and leisure, ensures maximum play value for children of all age groups. Damian Kilbane, Chairman of the CFÁA, Environment and Infrastructure sub committee, said he was “delighted to see that this vital amenity for the children of Achill and beyond has been developed”. In recent years, he said, the original facility that was there had fallen into a state of disrepair and was wholly inadequate. Damian outlined furthermore that the high numbers using the playground already are testament to the success of the development.

Minister Dara Calleary will officially open the playground on Saturday November 28 at 12 noon and there is an open invitation to all members of the public, young and old alike, to attend.

Terence Dever, CEO of CFÁA, said that he, the board and staff had a great sense of pride in being able to deliver this project on time for the parish of Achill. He paid homage in particular to those who provided funding for the project, namely Meitheal Forbartha na Gaeltachta’s Community Support Scheme (Salmon Hardship Fund ), Mayo County Council, Achill Half Marathon fund and Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla. He furthermore thanked Mayo County Council for agreeing to maintain the facility into the future and to the people of Achill and the Custodians of Achill Mission Estate for supporting the development of this leisure facility for the community.

The name Páirc Na Mara was chosen by a number of school children in Achill due to the playground’s location beside the sea and the use of Irish language throughout the Achill community, and these children will assist the Minister with the opening.
