A meeting is to take place next Tuesday, November 17, with the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association and the Oireachtas Joint Committee.
The invitation by the Oireachtas committee to the turf cutters has been welcomed by Deputy Michael Ring, Fine Gael Spokesperson for Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs. Dep Ring had sought such a meeting for the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association.
“This is a very serious issue for many people in rural Ireland. This now gives an opportunity for the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association to publicly air their views and to discuss prohibitions on the cutting of turf on raised bogs and the serious implications this will have,” concluded Dep Ring.
