Hatchet horror in Heatons

A man was attacked by men wielding a hatchet in full view of Saturday shoppers in Heatons Store, Castlebar, at 3.45pm on November 7.

The injured man was rushed to hospital after receiving serious injuries and gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry.

Collision in Ballinrobe

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a serious traffic accident which occurred on Monday evening on the Neale Road in Ballinrobe.

Two cars were involved in the accident and two people were injured.

Castlebar town centre ready for facelift

Work will commence on January 18 on the redevelopment of Castlebar town centre. The €2.3 million project is expected to take 11 months to complete and will enhance the appearance of the traditional shopping areas and make the town more pedestrian friendly.

The work will start in the Mountain View area and progress through the town finishing at Linenhall Street.

Jobless increase in Mayo

Figures released by the CSO show an additional 143 people signed on in October in comparison to September bringing the total on the live register in Mayo to 12,128.

Ballinrobe solicitor suspended

On Monday the president of the High Court, Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns, ordered that a Ballinrobe solicitor be suspended.

Daniel J Coleman, of Coleman and Co solicitors, Main Street, Ballinrobe, had last week undertaken not to practise for the past week after the High Court heard he disputed the society’s bid to suspend him over lack of insurance. The society was also concerned about allegations of serious fraud within his office.
