Man drove off from garda

A 21-year-old unemployed man from Ballina, who drove off from a garda after he was informed that he would be summonsed in relation to not having an NCT certificate for his vehicle, was disqualified from driving at Ballina District Court this week.

On April 8 2009 at 5.05pm, Garda Caroline Taaffe stopped David Marshall, 138 Greenhills Estate, Ballina, driving his car with no NCT displayed.

Garda Taaffe explained to Marshall that he would receive a summons in relation to not having an NCT certificate, however the defendant dismissed the garda and drove off. The defendant was then stopped by another garda.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined the defendant, who has previous road traffic convictions, €250 for failing to stop for a garda and disqualified him from driving for three months. Marshall was also convicted and fined €170 for not having an NCT certificate. Recognisances were fixed.
