Policing committee meeting

A joint policing committee has been established for the Castlebar town area which includes three people to represent community and voluntary organisations in the town. The function of the policing committees, which are being established throughout the country, is to serve as a forum for consultations, discussions, and recommendations on matters affecting the policing of an area.

In order to discuss the work of the JPC and to reconfirm and/or replace the community representatives a meeting will be held on Tuesday November 17 at 8pm in Castlebar. This meeting will discuss the role of the policing committee and select the community representatives. Each organisation invited, which must be registered with the County Community Forum, can nominate one of its members to be selected for the policing committee. Should there be more than three people nominated, an election will be held on the night with each organisation present having one vote. It is hoped that community and voluntary organisations in Castlebar will be represented at this important meeting. For further information contact Declan Turnbull, Mayo County Council, on 094 902 4444 or 904 7545.
