New youth theatre show ready to go

Castlebar’s very own DoYou Playhouse brings its exciting new production Multiplex to the Linenhall Arts Centre on Monday November 16 and Tuesday November 17 at 8pm.

A comedy written by Christopher William Hill, Multiplex revolves around the lives of a group of young cinema ushers obsessed with films. Reality and fantasy blur, as they imagine their own films under the direction of film-buff King. But King’s leadership is challenged when new usher Mouse arrives and the pecking order begins to disintegrate. Expect plenty of laughs as Castlebar-based youth drama group DoYou Playhouse delivers its latest success with a cast of some of Mayo’s very best young acting talent aged from 13-18 years.

DoYou is the brainchild of Donna Ruane and Oisín Herraghty, two highly experienced members of the Mayo drama community who have been delivering top quality youth productions since 2002. Multiplex looks set to be their latest triumph. And remember, youth theatre isn’t just for young people, it’s for everyone.

Rare oul’ times at the Linenhall

Celebrating Dublin’s literary past, Nomadic Theatre Group presents a thoroughly engaging night of comedy theatre in The Rare Oul’ Times at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday November 26 at 8pm.

Set in 1950s Dublin in the back room of the Bailey public house, Ireland's two most volatile drinkers and literary figures, Brendan Behan and Patrick Kavanagh, discuss with great humour their lives, loves, successes and failures. The comedic play sympathetically highlights the complexities of both men, their fiery temperaments, their love of the written and spoken word and their longing for recognition.

The Rare Oul' Times shows Behan at his most outrageous and Kavanagh at his most vitriolic, while the humour, poetry, songs and pints of porter flow. Written by Ken McElroy in 2003 for the Edinburgh Festival, this two-act play featuring Ken Mc Elroy as Patrick Kavanagh and Oliver Moore as Brendan Behan has toured widely in Ireland and the UK.
