People of all ages across the west and south of the country are gearing up for the annual A Metre to a Mile Kingfisher challenge which takes this year from Monday November 23 to Friday November 27 to help raise as much money as possible for Goal’s projects in the developing world.
Children, adults, and everyone who is young at heart will be putting on their sports gear to swim, walk, run, cycle, or row any distance from one metre to one mile for Goal at the Kingfisher Club in Breaffy House Resort to help improve the lives of the poorest of the poor.
This year all of the money that is raised will go to the Calcutta water and sanitation project. This project is providing clean water and sanitation to schools in Calcutta, with each unit costing €5,000 to build.
Each of the Kingfisher clubs will be hosting various events ranging from coffee evenings, swimathons, triathlons, group exercise classes, and many more during the week. Non-members are eligible to take part and will have free access to the club during the fundraising challenge.
The Metre to A Mile challenge is held in aid of Goal each year, with in excess of €62,000 being raised over the past two years. The funds raised from this year’s event will go towards one of the poorest countries in the world.
