Balla Mart report

On Saturday Balla Mart held their usual cattle sale. There were 1,150 cattle on offer sold in three rings. There was good trade and on average prices were slightly up on last week with more farmers and Northern buyers buying.

Bullocks averaged from €123.81 to €149.87/100kg while heifers averaged from €148.13 to €152.59.

There were some excellent prices paid, for example a CHX heifer of 485kg made €1,030, ie, €2.12/kg.

There were 144 cows on offer and one good pair made €1,240.

On Tuesday October 27 Balla Mart held its usual weanling sale. There were 1,000 weanlings on offer. Quality weanlings were a very good trade, with exporters and some local farmers buying.

Bull weanlings averaged from €165.10 to €188.97/100kg while heifers averaged from €148.81 to €158.52.

There were some excellent prices paid, for example a BBX bull 320kg made €1,020, ie, €3.18/kg and a BBX 375kg bull made €1,250; that’s €3.33/kg.
