Ballinrobe and Ballyhaunis Development plans go before full council on Monday

The draft development plans for both Ballyhaunis and Ballinrobe were passed by the elected members of the Claremorris electoral area committee this week. The members considered the manager’s report on the submissions made by the public and other bodies to the original draft plan which was published earlier this year.

The members made a number of amendments in relation to zoning for residential development and changes to zoning in relation to industrial areas on both plans.

The members were told that they had zoned more lands for residential development than may be needed which could lead to the Minister for the Environment returning the plan or ordering the county manager to change the plan under a ministerial directive. However the elected members were confident that they had done enough to ensure the plan would be in the best interests of the two towns and their hinterlands.
