The 2009 successful applicants of the Corrib Natural Gas Third Level Scholarship Programme have just been announced.
There were a total of 42 applicants for the 10 scholarship places. The scholarships are valued at €4,000 per year for the duration of the courses chosen and must be taken up in the year in which they are offered.
According to the chairman of the independent scholarship board, Seán Staunton, the standard of entry was “extremely high” and was a credit to the students, their teachers and parents.
“In these difficult economic times the scholarships will be much appreciated by the students and their parents,” said Mr Staunton. “This is particularly the case for Erris-based students because of the distance they are from third level institutions.”
The successful applicants are as follows: David Barrett (Our Lady’s Secondary School ), Gráinne Conway (Our Lady’s Secondary School ), Elaine Doherty (St Brendan’s College ), James Doherty (St Brendan’s College ), Michael Forde (St Patrick’s, Lacken Cross ), Deborah Garvin (Coláiste Chomáin ), Noreen Hopkins (St Patrick’s, Lacken Cross ), Dara Mangan (Our Lady’s Secondary School ), Christina McAndrew (St Brendan’s College ) and Rachel Ní Ghamhnáin (Coláiste Chomáin ).
