Achill teenager laid to rest

An Achill teenager who died after his car plunged off the edge of a cliff and into the Atlantic Ocean was laid to rest this week.

Nigel McNamara (19 ) from Pollagh, Keel, Achill, died in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday morning when his van left the road near Keem Bay.

The alarm was raised at approximately 3am when witnesses reported seeing a car going over the cliff.

The van was located at about 7am on Monday morning following a massive air and sea search. Local sub-aqua divers recovered the body shortly after 9am.

The deceased, a student at Athlone Institute of Technology, and the son of John and Patricia McNamara, was buried in Slievemore Cemetery on Wednesday following requiem Mass at St Patrick’s Church in Pollagh. Gardaí are continuing to investigate the incident.
