Mayo athletes do well at Dublin City Marathon

Mayo AC had 17 finishers in the Dublin City Marathon, three first time marathoners, many improved times, and all enjoyed the tremendous atmosphere and fantastic Mayo support among the thousands lining the 26.2 mile route. TJ McHugh was the first Mayo AC finisher in a brilliant 2.38, and Tom Waldron brought the team home in an amazing 4.59 in his o70s category. The race incorporated the Irish Marathon Championships and results are being checked by AAI. A quick check of the overall results indicates that three Mayo AC athletes are in with chance of individual medals. The masters men's o35 and o50 teams will also be in the running.

Masters Group 1: o35 Team: David Conway 2.59, Joe Dawson 3.02, Anthony Devaney 2.50, Gerry Galvin 3.12, Brendan Gill 2.51, Tony Gleason 4.45, TJ McHugh, 2.38, Christy O'Malley 4.17. Masters Group 2: o50 team: PJ Hall 3.48, Tom Hunt 3.18, Owen Mongan 3.28, Tom Waldron 4.59. Women: Senior: Yvonne Byrne 4.25, Kathy Connolly 3.25, Caroline Conway 3.52.

Connacht cross country

On Sunday the Connacht novice, intermediate, and masters cross country championships take place in Ballinamore starting at 1pm. Novice is anyone (male and female ) who has not won a Connacht novice medal so is open to all who started running in last couple of years. Intermediate is for anybody (male and female ) who has won a Connacht novice so will include many who have run some cross country but may not have competed beyond novice level. Masters is for over 35s (male and female ) no matter what they won in the past.

Mayo athletes compete in New York Marathon

There will be two Mayo AC members taking part in the New York marathon this weekend among the thousands who will take part in the event. Michael O’Malley from Shrule, who has recently joined the club, will line up alongside John Gibbons from Hollymount who is a member of the Mayo AC fit for life programme and will be taking part in his second New York Marathon.
