Early bird train service to commence next month

Commuters to arrive in Dublin before 9am

Iarnród Éireann has announced that additional train services, including an early bird train service from Westport which will arrive in Dublin’s Heuston station at 8.50am daily will commence on November 30.

Councillor Myles Staunton, the Cathaoirleach of Westport Town Council has welcomed the decision, which was formally made on Thursday, as it will be “of particular benefit to those involved in business, tourism and education within the town” and is also crucial in attracting “industry and enterprise to the town”.

Corporate communications manager of Iarnród Éireann Barry Kenny said that alongside the current train times the new services will depart from Westport at 5.15am and there will also be an afternoon train departing from Dublin at 3.30pm.

The Cathaoirleach particularity thanked Westport Town Council in conjunction with Westport Chamber of Commerce, through the Multi-Agency Enterprise Group, which has “been to the forefront in lobbying for this early bird service to Dublin for a number of years and I am delighted that the hard work has paid off”.
