Shell security officer found in possession of drugs

A 26-year-old security officer at the Shell gas terminal was found in possession of €75 worth of cannabis following a search on his home where he lives with his widowed mother.

At Belmullet District Court on Wednesday Inspector Joe Doherty outlined that on November 27 2008 a search was carried out on the home of David Gaughan, Cross, Binghamstown, Belmullet. Nothing was found in the home, however cannabis was found in the defendant’s car which was parked outside the house.

Gaughan said it was for his own use and told the court that he is no longer using drugs.

Judge Mary Devins applied the Probation Act and directed that a contribution of €300 be paid to Ballyglass Lifeboat.
