Car sales drop in Mayo in September

The Society of Irish Motor Industry’s latest figures shows the continued decline of new vehicle sales in Mayo in September compared to the same time 12 months ago. In September this year there were only two heavy good vehicles sold in Mayo, compared to seven in 2008, a 70 per cent reduction, which is six per cent above the national average decline.

There were 14 light commercial vehicles sold in Mayo in September a drop from 20 in the same period 12 months previously, a 30 per cent drop, but this was still better than the national average which saw a 35 per cent drop in the sales of light commercial vehicles.

Car sales in Mayo last month saw a 42 per cent decline, which is eight per cent higher than the national average. There were only 34 new cars sold, compared to 59 in 2008.
