Better airport signage needed as tourists struggle to find IWAK

Fine Gael Deputy Michael Ring, spokesperson for community, rural, and Gaeltacht affairs, has called on Mayo County Council and the NRA to improve the signage for Ireland West Airport Knock.

“I have been contacted by both Mayo residents and visitors who expressed their concern about the signage for them travelling to and from the airport,” Dep Ring said. “Really what is creating a lot of confusion for tourists is the signage for Knock Shrine as many have presumed that is where the airport was located.

“I am anxious to get signs erected to indicate exactly where Ireland West Airport Knock is, similar to the signage for the Turlough House and the National Museum of Country Life. A number of people have made complaints to me on this issue and I have received several e-mails from tourists who toured Mayo, and when they were going to the airport they found it very difficult to locate.

“Ireland West Airport Knock is a wonderful facility and I am anxious that visitors would not be put off using the airport again simply due to poor road signage. I am calling on the NRA and Mayo County Council to ensure that clear, concise, signage is erected so that there can be no confusion for tourists,” concluded Dep Ring.
