Fibs for Phones nets €163,000

Since January 2009 the Fibs for Phones campaign promoted by C&C Cellular and Midwest Radio has raised more than €163,000.

The challenge for community groups was to collect 500 old mobile phones. In return C&C Cellular provided each group with a defibrillator, a secure cabinet, and training for six group members. In all 54 defibrillators were distributed at a cost of €103,000.

The campaign culminated with a gala ball held in Breaffy House Hotel. Thanks to the generosity of the large number of sponsors the gala ball significantly added to the fundraising efforts.

C&C Cellular’s Brendan and Julie Chambers were on hand to distribute a total of €60,000. The recipients included Mayo Woman’s Support Services and Mayo Cancer Support, each receiving €24,708.85, €2,000 to the Cormac McAnallen Trust, and €1,000 each to Mulranny Order of Malta, Swinford Autism Classroom, Gina Heraty Haiti Fund, Carmelites Lourdes Fund, Ballina Community Centre, Duchenne Irl, MS Sligo, Greater Chernobyl Cause, and the Oncology Education Fund.

“We have proven once again this year how much mobile phone recycling can benefit both the environment and our community,” said Brendan Chambers. “If you would like to get involved in our next campaign please contact us on freephone 1800-360 000.”
