Fines for husband and wife convicted of public order

A husband and wife have been convicted and fined for threatening and abusive behaviour in a public place at Ballyhaunis District Court.

Garda David Donnelly told the court that he received a call that an incident had occurred at Barrack Street, Ballyhaunis, at 3.25am. When he arrived at the scene he found Joseph and Margaret Cleary, 2 Stone Street, Ballyhaunis, arguing on the street. Margaret Cleary had blood on her face from an earlier altercation with another group. Garda Donnelly said he saw Joseph Cleary start to grind his teeth and then clench his fists so he moved in between the two and arrested both of them under Section six of the Public Order Act. Judge Mary Devins fined Joseph Cleary €500 and Margaret Cleary €250.
