Cannabis found in Castlebar man’s car

An 18-year-old student who was detected having cannabis in his car was before Castlebar District Court this week.

Gardaí stopped the car of Richard Kelly, Aughadrinagh, Castlebar, on February 25 this year at 4.25pm in the Moneen area and searched the car for drugs. Three other men were in the car with the defendant at the time and cannabis was detected on the floor of the passenger seat. Kelly told gardaí that he owned the €40 worth of cannabis and that it was for his own use.

Judge Mary Devins ordered a probation report for Kelly, who has no previous convictions and is completing a PLC course, to be before the court on December 2 2009.
