One of the better known poets in Ireland, Rita Ann Higgins, will be reading tonight (October 9 ) as part of the Westport Arts Festival. Beloved for her irreverent, witty and fresh take on Irish life, she has published eight collections of poetry and many plays. She has won numerous awards and is a member of Aosdana. She will be joined by John Corless, a Mayo-based writer whose first collection Are You Ready? has just been published by Salmon Press. According to poet Kevin Higgins, “He has been recognised as a great performer of his own works and one of the brightest rising stars on the live poetry scene. If you get a chance to go and see him read, do. Desperate Housewives will be repeated, John Corless may not”. The writers will be accompanied by musician Tony Reidy. Westport Plaza Hotel at 8pm, tickets €8 available from the box office or at the door.
